PRO-based clinical communication
Motivate patients to complete PROMs (1)
Patients are more likely to complete PROMs if they understand why they matter and how the data are used.
Patients can have different reasons for not completing PROMS. How can these reasons be addressed?
Lack of information (what to do and why)
Low motivation
Technical barriers
Concerns
Health-related inability
Unintentional non-completion
Difficulty understanding questions/response options
Some groups may need extra support, e.g., materials in the patient’s first language, alternatives to digital reporting (paper instead of portal), training for low digital literacy, and more guidance for limited health literacy or older patients (user-centred design, extra explanations).
