7. Interpretation of Patient-Reported Outcome data

Short recapitulation: Scoring of EORTC questionnaires

Scoring for the EORTC QLQ-C30 and supplementing modules (overview in chapter 3) must follow the standardised procedures as described in the Scoring Manual.

Short summary:

PROM scores are calculated from the numbers assigned to the response categories (see left picture).

These numbers are transformed into scales (0-100 points). Single item (=question) scales are derived from one question, e.g. EORTC QLQ-C30 constipation. Multi-item scales are calculated from several questions assessing the same construct, e.g. EORTC QLQ-C30  fatigue. 

Remember: For functional scales, higher scores are better while for symptom scales, higher scores indicate more severe burden.
