Implementation of PRO assessment in clinical practice
5. Set up necessary preconditions
After modelling the target workflow, establish the prerequisites to make it operational and turn the plan into reality. There are four pillars of implementation to consider.
... with relevant interest-holders on
- tasks and work packages (e.g. resource acquisition, IT integration)
- responsibilities for PRO assessment.
... of required resources, e.g.
- licenses for specific PROMs
- PROM software
- technical devices (e.g. printers, tablets, notebooks).
... of existing processes and resources, e.g.
- routines and workflows
- clinical IT system, PROM software and devices with focus on interoperability.
... of necessary materials, e.g. for
- training of clinical staff
- information for patients/staff
- PRO-based clinical interventions
- PRO-based patient self-management.
This process involves the coordination of numerous stakeholders and tasks. Therefore, consistent coordination (sequencing, timelines) and proactive monitoring (anticipating delays, resolving problems at an early stage) are essential.
