6. Implementation of PRO assessment in clinical practice
1. Create a shared vision
As a key motivator for change, the first step is to build a shared vision among relevant interest-holders regarding the value and benefit of PROM implementation.
Be aware that not everyone has an understanding of PROMs and their value.
Build personal PROM know-how: solid understanding of PRO assessment and benefits helps you explain clearly and answer questions.
Establish a common understanding of key interest holders regarding concept and possible benefits of PROMs (see Chapter 1 for basic information, Chapter 2 for benefits).
Connect the realities of interest-holders with the potential benefits of PROMs: work together to identify relevant clinical/organizational advantages and develop a clear preliminary understanding of how PROM implementation could work.
Secure early approval of leadership.
Grow the coalition: involve and convince as many interest-holders as possible to increase support and momentum
Prefer face-to-face conversations: allows direct discussion, immediate clarification, and addressing concerns in real time.
Once approved, find one or more coordinators with sufficient time, expertise, and motivation to manage the overall process.
