3. Introduction to PROMs developed by the EORTC

Scoring of EORTC PROMs

Responses (1=Not at all, 2=A little, 3=Quite a bit, 4=Very much) are entered into a scoring algorithm and transformed to 0–100 scales which depend on the respective PROM. Scoring for the EORTC QLQ-C30 is described in the Scoring Manual

Interpretation depends on the scale type (example: EORTC QLQ-C30):

Functional scales

Symptom scales

Higher scores indicate better functioning/quality of life. Lower scores indicate low functioning or impairment.

Higher scores indicate higher symptom burden. Lower scores indicate milder or no symptom burden.

For further information regarding the interpretation of PROMs please refer to chapter 7.
